This summer Bristol-Myers Squibb and Syracuse University marks its 17th year of providing a week-long science adventure for local 7th and 8th grade students. The 17th annual Summer Science Adventure will be held July 6 – 10, 2009.
The program, which is fully funded by Bristol-Myers Squibb, is designed to encourage students’ interest in science and technology and to foster interest in science-related careers. One student from each of the middle schools in Onondaga County is selected to participate in the program. Program information, which includes the Science Horizons brochures and student application forms, has been mailed to each middle school principal in Onondaga County.
Students are given the opportunity to explore hands-on activities in areas such as chemistry, green building design, geology, physics, and strength and stamina. They learn about animal anatomy, sports medicine, ornithology, insects, the science of fire and geocaching, and visit venues such as Syracuse Stage, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, and local businesses, for example, Waste Management, Solvay Paperboard, and Spring Side Farm.
If your child or student is interested in this exciting program, please contact your school’s principal.
NOTE: The student application form and essay, along with the teacher recommendation form, must be received by Friday, April 24. Applications received after this date will not be accepted. |
