Blanca Gallardo

Blanca Gallardo

With a B.A. in English Literature and an M.A. in Linguistic Studies, both from Syracuse University, Blanca considers herself a loyal Orangewoman. Working with ELI students is highly rewarding because she can adapt instruction to the goals of each individual while teaching main course points to the group as a whole. Because she feels that community life is very important, she is glad to serve as the advisor of the ELI Student Council, a group that organizes activities and encourages involvement in campus life. She has conducted a workshop and practice session focusing on personal self-defense and life planning for young Latinas interested in attending Syracuse University. Aside from work, Blanca dedicates her attention to the changing joys and needs of her large extended family.

Deb McGraw

Deborah McGraw, a.k.a. Deb, has been teaching at the English Language Institute (ELI) since 1999. During the summer, she teaches Business English and Culture to business executives in the ELI's intensive language program for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. During the academic year, she teaches English for Academic Purposes to international students. Before coming to the ELI, Deb worked as a courseware designer, writer and editor for an educational software company. She also taught English as a Foreign Language as a Distance Learning Instructor: she communicated via the Internet and telephone with students all over the world. However, as she much prefers interacting with her students in the classroom, she feels very fortunate to be teaching now in the ELI. Deb was once an international student herself; she studied for two years at a German university when she was an undergraduate. Deb then earned her Master's Degree at Cornell University, where she taught for several years in the Department of Modern Languages. She still lives in Ithaca, and highly recommends a visit to the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York.
